About This Project

DuPont KEVLAR (p-ARAMIDE)

KEVLAR para-aramide sewing thread supports temperatures up to 425 ° C and its proportional strength is 5 times higher than steel. This fiber is sensitive to UV rays but does not imply a deterioration of it.

It is manufactured in 2 different ways:

100% KEVLAR Yarn
KEVLAR 75 – NM 50/2 – Carts of 5.000m
KEVLAR 50 – NM 50/3 – Carts of 4.000m
KEVLAR 40 – NM 50/4 – Carts of 3.000m
KEVLAR 20 – NM 50/7 – Carts of 1.500m

100% KEVLAR Yarn
KEVLAR F10 – NM 8/2 – Carts of 600m
KEVLAR F8 – NM 8/3 – Carts of 500m
KEVLAR F6 – NM 8/4 – Carts of 400m

PROPERTIES OF KEVLAR®

THERMAL RESISTANCE
The Kevlar® maintains its strength and resilience to almost the cryogenization point (-196ºC); in fact, it is slightly more resistant to low temperatures. At high temperatures the breaking strength is reduced by 10-20%, and after several hours of exposure the resistance is further reduced.

For example, at 160 ° C (320 ° F) and after 500 hours of exposure the temperature is reduced by 10%. At 260 ° C (500 ° F) and after 70 hours of exposure the resistance is reduced by 50%.

RESISTANCE TO ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT
Like other polymers, Kevlar® is sensitive to prolonged exposures to ultraviolet (UV) rays with consequent surface degradation (yellow to brown). Although this degradation is only limited to the surface due to the self-reflective property of Kevlar®, UV exposures should be minimized during storage and handling, keeping Kevlar in light-resistant bags or boxes.
